Most of this takes ten minutes the week before. It means the crew spends the day building, not waiting, and nothing comes as a surprise to either of us.
The week before
- Clear the work area and a path to it: furniture, cars, pots and yard decor. For a remodel, empty the cabinets and closets we're working in.
- Mark sprinkler lines and anything buried that's yours. We call 811 so the public utility lines get marked; private lines, like a sprinkler system or a line out to a shed, are only known to you.
- Plan where you'll cook, wash or park if the job takes your kitchen, bathroom or driveway out of use for a while.
- Give the neighbors a heads-up. Deliveries and the concrete truck may block the street for an hour or two.
- Tell us about anything unusual, like a soft spot in a floor, an old leak, or a spot where water sits after rain.
What we need at the property
- Access for the crew and deliveries, and room for a dumpster or trailer if the job needs one.
- Power and water we can use while we work.
- Someone who can decide within reach for questions that come up, and someone home at the start to walk the job with us.
If one of these is missing and the work can't go ahead, it counts as a late cancellation. The charge for that is on the Prices page. Not sure about any of them? Call or text (575) 555-0142 before the day and we'll work it out.
Pets and kids
Please keep pets inside or in a closed yard while we work. Open doors, tools and fresh concrete aren't safe for them, and paw prints in fresh concrete are there for good.
Same goes for little ones: keep them clear of the work area, and away from wet concrete, which is caustic on skin.
While we work
We start around 7 and clean up every afternoon. You get an update at the end of each week, and a call the same day if anything changes.
We walk the job
We go over the plan, the layout and the finishes together before anything is torn out or dug.
We confirm the price
It's the price in your written quote. If something hidden turns up, like rot behind a wall, you hear the cost before we fix it, and you can say no.
Permits and inspections
We book every inspection and meet the inspector, so you don't have to take time off.
Build and clean up
Dust walls and floor protection go up first. The site is swept and safe every afternoon.
You look it over, then pay
We walk the finished job together and fix anything on the list. Card, cash or check.
After we finish
- New concrete: stay off it for a day, no cars for a week, and a month before heavy trucks or an RV.
- Paint and finishes need a few weeks to harden. Clean with a damp cloth, nothing scratchy, for the first month.
- Wood decks want a coat of sealer every two to three years. Composite only needs washing.
- Keep the paperwork: permits, inspection sign-offs and warranties. We email you copies of all of it.
Hairline cracks in concrete. Concrete shrinks as it cures, and the control joints are there so it cracks along them. A hairline crack outside a joint isn't a defect, but if one worries you, send us a photo and we'll come and look.
If you think something's wrong. Tell us in writing, with photos, and please don't repair it yourself before we've had a chance to see it. The details are in the terms of service.
Need to change your date?
Move or cancel at no charge with at least 48 hours' notice. With less notice, call or text (575) 555-0142. If weather stops concrete or roof work, we'll call you to move it, at no charge either way.
